Prakash Shimpi

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Prakash Shimpi has spent four decades at the leading edge of innovation in risk, insurance, and capital markets. Recognized as a “finance wizard” by The Economist, he has founded and built businesses from the ground up throughout his career, serving as CEO, President, and Chief Risk Officer at major global institutions.

At Chase Manhattan Bank, he pioneered new hedging and ALM methods that helped insurers manage product risk. At Swiss Re, he built Financial Products from scratch into a global market-leading operation, pioneering the creation of the Catastrophe Bond market and executing the first California Earthquake Cat Bond (Institutional Investor’s Deal of the Year, 1997). At Towers Perrin, he was an early developer of the Enterprise Risk Management field, building one of the most recognized ERM practices in the industry.

At VivaLogic, he invented a new method for extending retirement savings, now patented in five countries and being commercialized as the Community Long-term Income Plan (CLIP). He concurrently serves as Life Chief Actuary at American Family Insurance, a Fortune 500 company.

He is the principal author of Integrating Corporate Risk Management (1999, 2001) and recipient of the Society of Actuaries’ Presidential Award (2005) for his contributions to advancing the profession. He also received the ARIA Robert I. Mehr Award (2025) for research judged to have best stood the test of time over the preceding decade. From 2012 to 2016, he was appointed as one of “thirty distinguished professionals in economics, finance, financial services” to advise the US Treasury on emerging risks to the financial system.
